Our Story

Handras welcomes all gardeners from the complete novice to those with years of vast experience.  We hope to promote health and wellbeing within the site community.

We are a privately owned site, kindly leased to us by the Diocese with over a 100 years of history!  Situated behind St. Mary's Church, where footpath access is available however, our main entrance is just off Bramley Lane where we have a limited space car park and access to the main site.  At present we have around 79 plots of varying sizes with plans to extend this number.

Originally, the allotments were far more extensive than they are now.  In the mid 1950's, part of the original site was used to build new homes and many plots were lost.  The remaining allotment area was restructured to allow for a lane system and this is how it remains to the current day.

We are proud of our little site shop (The Shed) which through volunteers who kindly give up their time, is open Saturday and Sunday 10am to 12pm.  Everyone is welcome to come and have a browse or simply pop in for a chat,. Non plot holders are welcome upon payment of a yearly £1 subsidiary membership.

If you are looking for quiet and solitude or a welcoming friendly community feel, this is the site for you!

We welcome local applicants to the site, if you are interested in becoming a member, click the link below or head to our contact page for details on how to apply for a plot.
