In order to maintain our vibrant community, and to be able to continue providing a space for people to enjoy we have to ensure everyone abides by certain terms.

An allotment can be a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors, but it can also require a lot of time and effort to maintain.

Delicious produce you could be growing on a HANDRAS plot.

Our terms and conditions for members are as follows:

  • To apply for a plot on our site you must be a minimum of 18 years old.

  • You will be added to our waiting list and once a plot becomes available, you will be invited to a viewing.  If you do not accept the plot offered, you will be placed to the bottom of the waiting list until another plot becomes available.  Should you reject the offer of 3 plots, you will be removed from the waiting list.

  • All plot holders are subject to signing a tenancy agreement which includes a 3 month probationary period.  This is to allow a period for new tenants to demonstrate they can manage a plot. A Site Mentor will be assigned, who will check in once a month to see how new tenants are getting on, answer any questions and offer advice.  If a tenant decides it is not for them or fail to meet the expected levels of keeping a plot within the probationary period, the outstanding rents period is non refundable.  Monies will be retained to cover any costs of restoring the plot to a condition to allow it to be re-let.

  • Site rules should be followed at all times, be kind, considerate and courteous to others.

  • Our plot sizes vary from 165sq mtrs up to 600sq mtrs with rents costing between £25 up to £70 per year.  This cost includes membership fees for the National Allotment Society and a contribution to the site insurance.

  • The annual rents run from March to February.  Any plots let outside of the normal rent period will have their rents adjusted for the first year to reflect when the tenancy started.

  • Animals and livestock to be kept on site are strictly prohibited with the exception of up to 4 hens.  No cockerels are permitted.

  • We are a non running water site so water conservation is key and strongly encouraged.

  • Permission is to be sought prior to building any new structures on your plot e.g. sheds, polytunnels or ponds. Please contact inspectionteam.handras@gmail.com.
